if this has been discussed before sorry. for those of you who tow...isn't it a pita when everytime you back up you have to turn the reverse sensors off because of the trialer is behind you--don't call me lazy I know I can just push the button. wouldn't it be nice if it was bypassed when there was a trailer plugged into the light conection next to the hitch so that the sensors new not to come on. What do you guys think ands how do I do it?
I think I would have to have some kind of relay that when power is sent to the trailer it didn't send power to the sensors or at least the speaker for the system
If your good you only have to push the button one time. Switch will not work if you push the button before you put the truck in reverce the alarm will still go off.

what are you saying, I can't back up a trailer! just kidding. I'm pretty good, I've been towing since I was 16..so I've got 12 years under my belt. I can back up a trailer with the best of them...wanting to put a switch to kill the reverse sensors has nothing to do with my driving ability, I know how the factory button works.
weekend, since you are the only one that has given an answer to my question...I think a kill switch to the speaker would be easiest. thanks
I've always thought Ford should have had the sensors auto-bypassed when the hitch plug is in use. To me, that should have been a "no-brainer" when they set the system up.
The truck doesn't know if the plug is in use or not. Those are just extensions of existing circuits.
What you'd have to do it put a relay on the trailer itself that is powered when hooked up. You'd then have to send that wire back to the truck to de-energize whatever relay/circuit/switch turns the sensors on.
Much easier to "switch" the speaker. I'd put a small one right below the speaker. You'll be back there hooking up the trailer anyway and that solves having run a lot of wire.
S, I feel the same way......Weekend and Monsta, thanks for the input. I think the easiest way is to put a small(or any kind) switch near the speaker...near where the rear ac is w/ the access door for the jack. Monsta good point about being back there anyway since no one has invented a complete auto-connect trailer hitch system yet!

I would tend to disagree with you Monsta (and that seldom happens). My Prodigy brake controller knows when the trailer is connected and it plugs in to the factory installed connector - so the ciruitry is in place to detect the connection.
When you plug the trailer in, it displays a "c" on the LCD for "Connected". I'm guessing that it's picking the connection to the trailer brakes as a complete circuit - surley someone with the knowledge (not me) could work off of that.
