Should be under the hood, passenger fender, tucked down between the air filter and the heater fan.

Can I assume we are talking automatics? If it really is a 3 speed auto, then someone has already swapped the transmissions, since the stock automatic would be the four speed A4LD. There's a chance that your 4 speed transmissions just isn't shifting into 4th gear. 1st thing I'd suggest is to properly identify which transmission you have.
what gears should i use when i re gear it
Depends on what you plan to do with it? What size tires do you want to run? Daily driver or other?
The connector should be over the passenger side front wheel well near the area where the starter relay is located. It should be in a holder on the inside fender wall about
a foot forward of the firewall. It should be a red connector in a black holder.
The 3 speed automatic is the original transmission when i went to oreillys to get the gasket for the pan and all the transmission came up for my year model were 3 speeds and in my Chilton same thing. the only difference is weather or not it had OD and i want to put 35's on it its got a 9 inch lift and i want to to put 35, 12-5 to help stabilize it some, as well as some wheel spacers cause you can feel it sway. thanks.
WOW! Does it have stock axles? Stock axles really won't hold up under anything bigger than 31s, or possibly 33s if you baby it. Is that 6in suspension + 3in body lift or what? You need to drop that sucker down. No wonder it sways! There's no reason to be up that high. You should be able to clear 33s w/ 6in combined lift and trimming or even 35 w/ a little more trimming.
i like it that high its the biggest bii I've seen in my town its actually taller than the full-size ones too. the bottom of the truck is at the top of my thigh and I'm 6' 3'' so that should help and i will put pics on sometime I've been trying to but working and school i don't have time but on the weekends and I'm working on it then anyways i would like to keep it at that height, like what do you mean why wouldn't the axles work?
