i have an 02 f250 v10 with 3.73s but im extremely slow with my 35 inch tires. its very hard to break my tires loose even with all of the little things ive put into my truck.
what gears would anyone recommend, keeping in mind that i dont want to top out any less than 100mph?
4.30's will bring you back to about stock and 4.56 will bring you a little better...do you mind me asking why you wanna make this behemoth go faster than 100 mph? u trying to kill someone?
i have the superchips tuner and with my current setup ive hit roughly 115 mph at about 4,000rpms but the best part is at over 100 mph the odometer shuts off and i can driive without adding miles. i dont know what my tires are rated for but its one hell of a time ridin that fast with those tires and my extremely stiff procomp lift. its also fun doing everything without power steering. anyone wanna sell me a pump?
I had a friend who's tires came apart at over 100mph. You might check your speed rating on your tires. He wasn't driving a SD. BTW, he didn't make it. I've got nothing against speed, but make sure you have the right equipment to handle it.
100+ MPH on any truck tire is asking for a LOT of trouble... sure hope you do those over 100MPH runs all by yourself, way out in the country, or at a drag strip
I was pushing the high side of 75MPH on a slight easy curve in my 1 ton dully 7.3L one fine morning and had ONE front tire let loose explosivly.... trust me a BIG truck is a real bear to control and bring to a safe stop when she is down on the rim...damned expensive too!
wow! i never thought about my tires blowing. i dont carry a spare tire because my first exhaust melted through it and some homeless guy stole it and used it for a table in this little alley we race in when i had parked to go fishin. i guess when i get new tires i should check the ratings and get a spare.
8000lb 100mph projectile.........whew. i will cruze about 70-75 with mine, and that's usually about it. even towing open road i set at about 60-65.
soething else to think about is the extra mass that the tires have. although the calculators say that XXX gear would be best, they don't factor in the added weight of the larger tires. if you looking at a 4.56 you might want to jump one step to a 4.88 just for the weight factor (just an example). i hear alot about that from the 5.4L guys, when the calculator says 4.30 they jump to a 4.56 OR even a 4.88 and that makes up the difference for the low power, and larger tires.
i may be selling my 4.56's (not sure yet), if you might be interested.
i would be interested if u have front and back gears because i actually use my 4 wheel drive. alot of guys down here are all show with their huge lifts and fast trucks but nobody takes them out to mud or tow. they just look pretty.
Your tires should have a speed rating molded on the sidewall of the tire.
Speed is expressed by letter. For example a BfGoodrich AT KO LT315/75R16/D has a "Q" speed rating or max speed under load of 99 mph. The speed rating is after the load index on the tire. On the above tire it would read 121Q on the sidewall. 121 is the load index and Q is the speed rating.
