i was wanting to know how do i tell what axles i have i went to the car part stores and can't find a book for the truck. i know it's got a 5 speed manual and i was told it took mercon auto tranny fluid and so did the transfercase does any know about how much they take.... i looked on my rear axle and didn't see any names its got 12 bolts on the cover and the front axle has 10 bolts???
quick response 350, the factory fluids are 80w90 in the diffs, atf in the tranny and transfer case. you can put any brand you like in, the manual trans i like the ford full synthetic manual trans fluid, it shifts awesome in them. always stick with standard atf in the transfer case, a lot of people like the royal purple in the rears, i just run good old castrol gear oil with the ford friction modifier, cheap and effective. i figure if it lasted 200k with my abuse then the fluid must be workin
also forgot something an easy way to fill your tranny is to pull the your shifter boot and the 4 bolts that hold your shifter in. slide straight up and dont drop the two plastic pieces. dump in your fluid 4 quarts if i remember right.
