lockers and 35's

hello, i just bought another 79 f150 today that i am going to be using as a parts truck. It has a dana 44hp in the front and a 9" in the rear. i was wondering how well these axles can handle 35's with lockers?

Gotta watch the front axleshafts with bigger tires. A buddy of mine used to have a bronco that the u-joint holes were hogged out. He had 37s on it.

ive got a 300 six to use on the truck that will be getting a rebuild & cam and maybe a cylinder head from clifford. im looking to use the truck for evey type of wheeling with the exception of rock crawling. i just want to build a nice all-around rig.

might wanna go ahead and go with both dana 60's front and rear just to play it safe. thats what ima do, if your like me and would rather overengineer than underengineer

dana 60's are sounding like the better choice now the more i think about it, the 44hp and the 9" would be nice to keep for a smaller project someday.

keep in mind that you will need 8 lug wheels for Dana 60's as apposed to 5 lug for the 44/9''.

You can still run 5, or even six lug wheels on any D60 axle. Rock guys do it all the time.

Or you could run it with the axles in it, and then look for 60s if (when) it breaks. It all depends on your driving style, really. If you take it easy, stuff can hold up a long time.

If you do upgrde axles, you may consider something bigger than a 60 out back. I have a shaved 40 spline 60 in one of my trucks, and it has survived so far, but for the money invested could have just bought a bigger axle.
Visteon/Sterling, GM corp 14 bolt, or D70 would still be very cheap and much stronger right out of the box.
