Valve Body Help?

Im thinking about a BTS Valve Body. Do these make tranny stronger or tighten up shift points or what. Are they worthwhile for towing? Thanks, Bill

They firm up the shifts. Make it much better for towing instead of the slushy feeling. I use it for day to day driving and towing.

But he doesn't have much there in terms of pics. However, when I installed mine, I didn't know of Guzzle's page but still, it could be done in your driveway.

Aklim, mine is in the mail, and I was figuring on getting a tranny shop to do the install, but after seeing Guzzles page, am thinking of doing it myself. Is there anything that a guy can really screw up or is it really as easy as it looks in the guide? I'm probably the average or slightly higher than backyard mechanic with regards to skills and experience. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks

Well, I don't mind wearin' a little transmission fluid. lol! I assume this is a good time to do a transmission oil change too? I noticed that we are not supposed to use Mercon V, and I was thinking of switching to synthetic, but it seems that the synthetic is a replacement for all transmission fluids. Is this going to negatively affect my transmission? Is there a recommended synthetic ATF for the 4R100?
Thanks

i am not %100 sure but i think we can now use mercon v..they have changed the way it was made..but dont take my word on it..when i did my VB i asked brian about the synthetic..he told me with a trans that has 145k on it not to use it...it will make a already weak trans a little weaker..making the clutches slip a little more..some guy's have changed with that many miles with no problems..but i took brians advise and stuck with reg. ATF

in my sig is a mod and fixes link..you can find 2 ATF flush threads in there to help you flush the system out..good luck

Well, I have 107K, and since the synthetic is $11 a quart, maybe I'll stick to the regular ATF and save that money for other things PMS. Thanks Ron

I suppose you could unbolt the engine oil pan instead if you are drunk enough. I think you are safe. I did it without the benefit of Guzzle's page.

Well, I don't know if you have a TC drain plug or not. If you do, drain it out.

I did mine a couple weeks ago. Use plenty of sheeting under there or you will have oil all over the floor. Have a good torque wrench. Have fun.

Drain the pan and pull off the pan, be prepared to get drenched when the filter and valve body gets removed. I could not belive how much fluid was behind the VB. Don't forget to tighten all the bolts and IIRC one or two nuts to the proper torque. I found that my other bolts on the trans were loose and tightened those too.

I placed a tarp with a movers blanket over it to absorb all the oil that missed the bucket. It rained (dripped) Trans fluid all during the replacement.

Dave.
