Diablo Sport computer chip.

I have a new F150 Supercrew with the 5.4 engine. Has anyone installed a Diablo Sport Chip in the computer? Has it done what the company says it will. Are you happy with the results. I need more HP and torque for towing. Thanks for your info.

A Powerstroke and a gas engine chip are light years apart. The Diablo or the Superchips, on a gas engine, will give you a little more increase than, say, turning off the A/C (about 25HP).

A diesel chip, on the otherhand, whether its Diablo or Superchips, is like slapping a Supercharger on a 5.4! Its not a fair comparison to compare a gas chip to the diesel chip.

When adding any chip to any vehicle, will the extra power prematurely wear an automatic transmission?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Jul-02 AT 07:12 PM (EST)]A brighter bulb does not burn as long! Just as fast starts and stops wear more than measured ones.

No, it will not wear out quicker. Matter of fact, since the torque converter has less slippage it runs cooler.

Sorry, but you're wrong about chips and wear. Chips do not give horsepower at the expense of longevity. They do it at the expense of the gas pump. Standard computers tune the timing advance for 87 octane. The chips retune for premium (you CANNOT run the truck with 87 with a performance chip in it), advancing the timing by 3-8 degrees depending on throttle position and RPM. This is no different than the days of distributors on non-computerized cars. Simply advance the distributor, change the weights and bingo... your car gets more power but requires higher octane.

As to the transmission, Ford tunes the shift for the average person's idea of comfort. The chips increase line pressure gradually (higher the more throttle you give it) for a firmer shift, which some people love but people who use their trucks as grocery-getters may not.
