I just have a quick question this time. Is it normal for a M5OD-R2 (crappy mazda 5 spd transmition in 90s F150s) to have a little fluid residue at the ***-end of it (almost seems like it came out of the rubber boot thingey)?
You mean out the tail shaft where the driveshaft goes in? That seal is easy to replace.
Or is it coming out on top like behind the shifter boot?
Where they have been known to leak is the rubber plugs on top at the back of the rectangular part where the ****er goes in, i'd say about 4 or 5 inches behind the shifter you'll see seveal rubber plugs across the side of the reaised parr, basically on top of the tranny case. Maybe they are leaking.
I am pretty sure that its not the shifter plugs but since it seems to be a common problem with these ill check. It seems to be coming from the tail shaft thing where right before the U joint.
Yeah, there is a seal just inside the tail shaft that seals against the driveshaft. You have to pull the driveshaft to replace it. As I remember the seal has a little spring around it to hold a nice seal against the spinning shaft. Should outline the procedure in your Chilton manual.
I have had them leak after pulling the driveshaft to do u-joints.
