Wheel question

edit - I guess it would help if I said what type of truck, huh? 1981 Ford F150 2wd - stock everything

I'm looking into buying some 20s but I had a fit question. I know my stock size is 5 lug 5.5 but how much play do I have on sizes (i.e. + or - 5.5)? It's been pretty hard to find the correct size bolt pattern.

Also I was wondering about wheel spacers - How much is to much and do they even make them for my truck?

Thanks in advance!

Go to ebay and type in "wheel spacer" in the search box. There is a company there that has all kinds of spacers, and will custom make anything you want. You need 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern, nothing else will do. But if you get one of their adapters, you may be able to buy some wheels with a different bolt pattern.

not to johnny rain cloud, but...... in using the very large dia. wheels that are avilable now, you're spinning a lot more weight which effect your braking ability, which translates into longer stopping distances. in order to maintain the trucks good braking ability it is recommended that you also upgrade your rotor and calipers. so many people neglect or can't afford to upgrade and put their safety and that of others at risk for the sake of lookin cool. if ya can, consider the whole package, if not, drive safe.

fat, I agree. I was told, however, that upgrading is not necessary unless going to a size 22 inch or bigger. I'm sure though going any size bigger then stock will affect stopping power. Thanks though guys. The more and more I own my truck, the more disapointed I'm becoming in the aftermarket selections these trucks have. I guess I was spolied after owning a fox bodie stang for so long.

Dude, its all out there, it just takes a little more digging than you are used to! I run 18's and bought them when 20's were coming on the market. I see no issue stopping the 18's at all. On your backspacing 5.5 is roughly the limit if you have a sway bar. My wheels are 9.5 wide and 5.5 backspacing...they touch the sway bar in a hard corner.

Good luck. They are very good pickups!

mustangs do rock........i live in a yard full of em. big family and everyone likes something different. they'er pretty big on the birds too. but don't give up on trucks. alot of trick things can be done w/ trucks. depends on how much money you can spend (as one of the members says). me, i like em big and strong, i an rv lover, i live in one full time. i've got a well appointed interior, very comfortable, bumpin system. but you can customize a hell of a lot more w/ the light truck you have. learn bondo/fiberglass, can you do any metal fab? do you weld? look around at members trucks. the skys the limit, i 've seen a lot of cool things on trucks, and a lot of it didn't come from detroit.

Mudgepondexpress.........i bought an old truck once that had the rear brake lines pinched off, i guess because the guy didn't want to do a brake job, one of the front calipers was seized, and the other caliper had pads that were grinding into the rotor. ya know that truck would stop too. giving up braking distance for good lookin wheels is common knowledge. if you have your stock wheels, take them to the track (i'm sure you have one in spokane) and do your test. a real true panic stop at 40 or 45 mph. an honest test will show a difference. and panic stops are whats important if ya have kids run out in front of you or someone with a bigger truck pulls out in front of you. i will agree that the 18's are not as heavy, but i do think that go fast trucks need stop fast brakes, and that is what the bigger rotors and calipers insure. by the way - your not by any chance vin deisel are you? nothin ever happens to him. lol be safe man
