I have a new noise and just wondering if this is truly a new noise or something everyone hears (maybe I just haven’t been paying attention). When I leave to drive in the morning, I hear a whooshing noise for about 15 seconds or so. This will also happen if I stop after a drive and let it idle for 5 minutes and then drive off.

Almost sounds like the EBPV engaging. Maybe the fan clutch? Turbo might be going south?

Coolant temperatures are normal, EGT’s all normal, Turbo boost normal, no smoke, no loss of power. Just this whooshing noise when I drive off in the mornings (outside temp 70 degrees) or after a short idle period and then drive off.<O</O
Do any of you hear this or do I need to start investigating? If I disconnect the EBPV plug on the pedestal, will this disable the EBPV leaving it open? The linkage is all tight with no slop. I figured I'd start by ruling out the EBPV. Thanks in advance, Mark
Sometimes my fan clutch engages for several seconds when first firing up in the AM and after idling stopped. It takes it a few seconds after sitting to release when air starts moving through the radiator. Sounds normal to me.
The EBPV closing partially, sounds like a sssssssssssssssssssssssssss kinda sound. If you unhook the EPBV wire from the pedestal it will default open, and if its the culprit it shouldnt do it. Since you said outside temps are at 70 degrees, it shouldnt be even thinking about closing, but you could try it. Im guessing like Izzy said, its more of a engine fan kicking in, mine sometimes, however rarely comes on, but i dont ever use the A/C. If you had it idleing with the A/C on its more then likely the engine fan.
Thanks guys, I think I'll leave it alone. Good to hear someone else hears something like this. I'm leaning to the fan clutch working normal causing the noise. Mark
Well, I disconnected the EBPV plug and the noise still happens. I'm going to conclude it's the fan clutch. Just seems odd it makes the noise when the engine is cold. I'm thinking it is working properly though. Until I see gauge readings that indicate a problem, I'm going to stop worrying about the noise. Thanks for the help. Mark
Not sure why it does that either. I'm sure it has something to do with how the fan clutch is designed. I've seen that happen on lots of vehicles from different manufacturers, so it's not all that uncommon.
