anyone done this? I have one of my two B9AE blocks at the machine shop, and the guy calls today to say that one cylinder is bad and don't look like it will clean up at .060. Can I go to .080 and still have a good reliable motor to drive daily on california freeways? And who makes pistons that big? Do I have to order a 312 oversize?
Or should I take the other block in to be checked? I didn't want to run this one cause it has the big lower crankcase breather tube thing and the other is setup to run a PCV valve in the valley cover.
Going .080 over shouldn't be a problem. 292 rings are cheaper than 312 rings, so shop for 292 pistons. I recommend pistons from John Mummert - full height for zero-deck.
Be sure to visit y-blocks forever web site and post this question there.
Edit; I think the B9 blocks are the best of the y-blocks.
