I know what you mean Jay. Weird isn't it, how we go from 'never heard of it' to 'basic requirement for continued existence' in just a few seconds!

I don't know Jared. It looks like a snow vehicle and I'm guessing there are a couple more skis on the other side (?)

The wheels are likely just to move it around when there is no snow.

But the drive system, I dunno, looks like some kind of turbine doesn't it?

It's a radial aircraft engine, the blades have been removed. What looks like 50s Ford car front suspension, landing gear of some sort in the rear, but i don't see any place to mount wings, so maybe it just skims on the snow. I searched for a good hour or so and didn't come up with anything.

FOUND IT!

It's an Aerosled K30, Russian (or rather Soviet), used in Siberia and North Kazakhstan.
More info available here:

Good find Jared!

Sounds more awesome than I would have thought!

Of course!
I love finding "new" Soviet-era vehicles, they had so much interesting stuff over there that wasn't public information here. For a taste- google "russian ground effect planes" and see what comes up. Some really ugly aircraft in that search, but interesting tech.
