I've heard a few people here mention head gaskets blowing. I wonder why? I've had 360 and 390's for about 18 years now, and never had one go. Even on the motors I put together myself
I've overheated 360's, and 390's, and they just kept going and going and going.
I wonder if you are having problems because the head-bolt holes were not clean enough? To get a good torque, I always chase the threads with a tap and make sure it moves easily in and out by hand. If it doesn't, you will not get a good torque.
Just wondering.
By the way, I run 11:1 compression on my current 390 in my '74 F250 and never had a problem with a head gasket. Fel-Pro
Art, you're not the only one who's never had problems with FE head gaskets. I've been driving FE's for 14 years now, and I've never lost a head gasket. The only complaints I hear are that parts are few and far between, or people wonder why I'm still running that dinosaur engine. :-)
