Impact wrench

I was looking at the Home Depot tool dept. I saw the RIGID impact wrench for around $170, and a Dewalt one, Which one would you recommend?
How about Makita?

Is it an air impact or and electric. I bought a set of air tools from Lowes and have been pleased with their performance. I have a 3/8 ratchet and a 1/2 impact and they do very well. The whole set was $99.00. If it is electric it is hard to go wrong with DeWalt or Rigid either one.

I've had an 18V DeWalt 1/2" impact for several years and it works great! And battery life is better than expected.

If you go air look at the IR 231 used one for years in truck shop they work well just do not hammer them short bursts and they will remove bolts torqued to over 400ft lbs and can be found for between 130.00 and 175.00

I have used the electric dewalt to sink lags, removed rusted hardware, etc. Works fine for what it is.

Although I have not personally used one yet, the new LIon battery powered Makita tools are supposed to be the bomb. The salesman (yeah I know) said night ad day difference than the rigid. The rigid does have a lifetime battery warranty, so thats something to consider as well.

Just bite the bullet and buy the snap-on. All of my racing buddies use them, and they cant be beaten. One of them had a craftsman that lasted about half a race season, then he bought the snap-on and has had it for over 3 years...

I buy Ingersoll Rands, used the for years on the service rigs and got 2 in my kit now. If you want an electric I had till someone stole them a 3/8 and 1/2 Snap On battery powered and they were great for a lot of bolts just not a lot of guts for high torque. Just stay away from Chicago Pneumatics. I blew up 2 in a month, the internals just went.

the latest popular item for racers is...the goodyear cordless impact gun from pep boys. costs a wopping $69 on sale. i got one two seasons ago to get me through a race weekend. two years of total abuse servicing two race cars and it still works like new. if it breaks? who cares, it is so inexpensive i can by almost a half dozen of them for the same price as a snap on...
