I need help.. I have a 2006 F350 and I have had allot of work done on the truck.
Such as - Banks Intercooler, High Perf Turbo, New head bolts, Edge Chip, High perform Exhaust and High Perfm Injectors. With all of this my EGT's are really high and no one can offer a suggestion on how to reduce them.
I have 3.73 gears and it has been suggested to go with 4.11's to keep it at higher RPM.
any other suggestions to reduce? Also, what is a safe EGT range? I easily get to 1300 and back off to 1200 and that is where I stay at or below.
Are you saying you're running 1200-1300 all the time; just driving normally? Are you towing?
If you're seeing those temps when you're well into the throttle with mid to high boost levels you're not all that out of line.
The accepted "safe" range is below 1300, but short spikes to 1400-1500 are not immediately damaging.
What size of injectors did you put in?
Why did you keep standard headbolts and not upgrade to studs?
The combination of your injectors and your Edge is going to have a lot to do with the high EGTs (you can also expect to be doing HG again), what power setting do you run at?
My suggestion to get your EGTs down is lose the Edge and get an SCT XCalII from Spartan; if you're still not satisfied there's always water/meth injection.
as was stated , going with a larger turbo and larger injectors, you will need an SCT that is tuned for what you are using.
using these mods with the edge is a good way to put too much stress on your motor, you will make much more power with a well tuned SCT that is tuned specifically for your application.
What is SCT? Suggestions on link to that company? I have been told by some folks that the Edge chip could be causing the high temps.. I usually get to the hight tems on any high grade climb without pullnig and when I am pulling on I gets really bad.. at most I am 1/4 way into the accelorator when I get to 1200 so I cannot use all that potential power.. They did take the heads compleatly offf and replace the studs/gasket.
In a race the truck is just awsome .. fast as hell so I wonder if I had it built more for racing than pulling my toy hauler?
Scratch that.. I have a Edge and a SCT.. just found it. The shop had to add that to take care of a check engine light (new Turbo does not have the variable blades).
In short an SCT XCalII is a device which reflashes the PCM in your truck with a custom strategy. They have advanced control of fuel delivery and shift strategies which make them the best tuner currently available for the 6.0
Here is the main website, but bear in mind custom tunes (which you will need) are written by independant vendors like Spartan.
Check out this thread for an overview of the chip/tuner debate.
Did the shop know you'd be stacking your Edge with their SCT tune? maybe try setting your Edge to level 0 and see how the truck runs.
I think you need to get with the shop that did your work an have them build some decent tunes for you. If you don't feel comfortable with them talk to Matt at Spartan or Eric at Innovative. They'll hook you up.

Thank you
I would recommend calling Matt @ spartan diesel and getting an SCT and dumping that fueling box...sorry. If it stays there at a max level and under a load then it should be okay, but if it stays higher than that under a load it needs to be addressed...let us know . sorry just saw the other post you left..maybe detune it a bit, if you have and SCT it can be changed.
BE VERY CAREFUL of higher RPM's. I just had a rod go through my block from my LPOP (Low Pressure Oil Pump) going out. From all the research I've done, it appears that a big factor in these failures is overreving. DON'T rev over 3800-3900 RPM's. Mine shifted at 4500 when the gears broke. When they break, you lose oiling to the engine. This in turn damaged the bottom end. We got her running again and went for a test drive and boom, rod through the block.
Look in the Diesel Competition Thread for My THEORY of what caused my 6L to blow and I tell everything that happened and some ways I think I can prevent it for next time.

i've run both the edge, and now i have the SCT. if you are impressed with the edge, just wait till you get an SCT and you will have even MORE POWER, and safer power with better shifting and lower egt's ...
