So I called a freind of mine today to ask him if he is interested in a 390 engine project that I had started and then changed my mind to a 410. I thought that he might need a new motor for his 70 or 71 pickup F-250 2wd 2bl 4spd. He said that he had rebuilt his 390 about 13 years ago and that it had a 427 side oiler with side bolt main caps. He said that it was casted on the back of the block 427 and that the side oil gallies were not drilled but were cast and that the caps were there but were not drilled for the side bolts. He said that he wasnot interested in selling the engine or the truck but someday he would probably sell the truck. He is more of a small block Ford guy he said that FE make good boat anchors, I just laughed to myself. It's to bad that this engine is in his hands and not mine but then if someone other than him had the engine it would not be a 390 still. So maybe someday I will end up with it talk to you guys later.

there are very few 427s that don't have the crossbolts...industrial engines and some other weird things. What your friend might very well have is a 63, 64, or a 65 390 block. Lots of them were cast using 427 molds for the back of the block and for the skirts. So it probably isn't a 427, but it is still a nice 390 block. DF
