sorry about that i jsut looked at the site and found the crossover kit. says only about 75 bucks each for one. its for a dana 44 which i have. is there any specific one for my model that i'm not seen or just the one i'm already looking at. also do you think this could be an easy sat afternoon project lol
Just for clarification, re-indexing the pitman arm does not return the steeering to full capacity. A lifted truck will always suffer from a limited turning radius if the drag link is not lengthened. The distance from the box to the steering arm increases as the truck gets lifted. Since the drag link stays the same length the radius is compromised. Should try off roading like that. At full suspension extension (driverside), it is possible to have the wheel turned all the way, and the tires still pointing straight.
Terrible, terrible steering design.
The x-over is really the only way to go.
As far as this being an afternoon job, it can be if you have a D60, but if you have a D44, you will have to remove the pass side knuckle completely. The knuckle will have to be mahined to accept the studs for the arm to bolt to. If you have an early non flat top knuckle, then you will need to have it nmachined flat, and then drilled and tapped for the studs. If you have access to a good machinist you can do this modification quickly, if not, you are gonna have a little down time on your hands.
If you are just doing a x-over and not a high steer, you will only need one arm. The arm on the pass side is the minimum required.
High steer will require two new arms, and will re-locate the tie rod and drag link above the leaf springs. Looks cool, and gets the tie rod up and out of the way, but if you are not in serious rocks, you need not spend the money.
Entirely up to you though.
