Ok, lets say I want to upgrade this motor and this is what I am thinking. Lets say I want to keep the engine itself stock but I want to increase HP. Leaving the long block alone I want to add a 2V four barrel intake. Any ideas which way to go. I want to go with a 4 barrel holley I think. What CFM should I go with. I want a set of ceramic coated headers. Which way should I go on a 72 mustang for headers. I want a HEI distributer and new wires, which way should I go and what is wrong with the procomp brand of distributers. Does K&N make a filter for our stock carb intake. What would be the problem with staying with a set of 2 V heads in the future if I work around the ones I have now. My ultimate goal is 400 HP with a bored and stroked engine in the future but between now and then I want a faster driver. Ed
You should be able to get close to 400Hp with out doing too much I had a similar motor built. I 1972 2V heads I had 2.11 int and 1.69 valve put in them with a port and polish job that was mostly on the exhaust side, as for cams I went with a Crower .526/276int and .533/281, Car and intake are a Edelbrock Air gap and a Speed Demon 650, hooker super comp headers, roller rockers (if you have the head at the machine shop get them milled for studs instead of bolt in rockers its worth the money on any high performance application). I had my heads milled and flat top pistons to get 9.5:1 compression, and I can never birng my self not to get something balanced. Haven't had it dynoed yet because the car is far from being read for a motor but that was supposed to get me in the 400+ Hp range at the crank. The valves he used were made for a Buick if i remember right.
