I need some imput from some who have already done what I am about to start doing. The truck is a 00 F150 7700 with a 5.4, A/T, 2wd, extended cab. It just turned 157K miles.
This is what I have done so far:
1. A good tuneup, including plugs, fuel filter, and a fuel injection service.
2. 3 inch exhaust after the Y pipe
3.K&N filter in the stock box that has been opened up for more flow, and a removed silencer in the stock intake tube.
4. New 265-75-16 tires. Slightly bigger than stock.
Now I want your imput on what to do next, here is the list of possibilities:
Edge tuner - Heard good reviews
E fans - heard good reviews
Throttle body spacer - heard mixed reviews
Pulleys - heard NO reviews
I am looking for MPG increase and Performance, in that order. What order would you do these in knowing what I am looking for in the truck? Or is there something else you would do? I dont have alot of $$$, but I want to get some of these done before my baby is born and I have NO $$$.
A tuner will give you more power and economy so I would start there. E-Fans would be second. The pulleys will give a few HP way up in the rpm range, but not much in the daily rpm band and there is a possibility of the alt not charging as well at an idle. I have heard no good things about the TB spacers, but have never tried one myself.
Lower rearend gears will help alot too, depending on what you have now.
Here is some things you might think about.
The larger tires took away some gear.
The large exhaust didn't do you any good in the pulling department.
If the holes in the air box is letting engine bay hot air in, that didn't help power either.
Good luck.
I've done everything you have listed or a variation of it except the TB spacer, they are BS IMO. The ONLY mod I have ever done that has given me power AND better mileage is when I switched to Efans. I put on UD pullies at the same time and didn't have a problem with them until I got my new 200amp alternator. They now slow it down just enough that it puts out just a hair under 12V at a idle in D, other than that I had no problem with them.
