Guage Confusion

I have been researching guages for my '97 250 PSD and have run into a question. What is a guage with "stepper" compared to one without?

Also, I think that I read in this forum that some of you recomended a specific brand or two of guages. When getting a guage for the Turbo Boost how high of a reading for a basic stock truck with a possibility of moderate Mods in the future should I get? There was also another question that came up but I'll be darned if I can recall what it was. As soon as I hit the "Submit" button I recall what it was.

In short, I think I need some guidance from you diesel Guru's. You guy's either make me laugh, smile or just scare the hell out of me.

Thanks in advance,
Roger

I like Isspro gauges, they are reliable, tough, and match the factory dash gauges pretty close if you get the green bulb covers. 30 psi is good for the turbo boost. You might want to check out diesel manor, they have pretty good prices and the guys there will answer any of your questions, and they can factory drop ship any Isspro gauge. They also carry other gauges. Others will chime in with their preferences.

I think the "stepper" refered to is a stepper motor in and electronic gauge. it uses the signal to tell a finely tuned motor that just moves in small step/incerments to move the needle.

For a boost gauge I would get a 35 PSI. unless you go with bigger injectors you won't max it out but its still very readable.

I like Autometer. I have C2 (cobalt 2) gauges on my pillar. The previous owner installed them. They are great gauges but they are super exspensive and extremely bright. they light up the entire cab even when i have them resistored down. I also like the ultra-lite series. which is what my latest coolant temp and oil pressure gauge are.

Try hewittindustries.com You will have to call them, speak to Bruce. They are in Cali. My pyrometer with thermocouple and wires was only $125. I really like their gauges and they are dependable. Just my opinion.

i like my autometer gauges. they are easy to install work great and come with a warranty. just look around and find what you like there is so many choices its all really your personal preference. the a pillar pod get that from autometer. it matches the current molding and like it was supposed to be in your truck.

I am with Neal. Bruce Dankmyer [b.dankmyer@hewittindustries.com] at Hewitt Industries is the man to talk to. He treated me really well and shot me a great price. He does give a volume discount and it the VP of the company so he is really willing to help. I ended up buying a set of NOS Banks gauges that will most likely go in this weekend.
PS - They do have a 1/3 min turbo timer too.

I like the fact that they have dual gauges (2 in one) and they still look like a regular gauge.
