Yeah, that's what it was Chris. Is that my only option for tranny control? Anything cheaper? Seems like I could buy a used C4 and sell my E40D and come out better than that. It would be more work though...
If your are staying auto with no overdrive, Go with a C6 , The C4 is a great trans but in my opinion not for a truck... C6 has the same bolt pattern and much more heavy duty, you'll need that especially if you plan on pulling anything.
I live in NC. Anything older than a '96 only has to go through a safety inspection. I am swapping to a carb to simplify things. I am also having to do things to it which will already have half the work done for a carb swap. On top of that, I have a B&M blower I could possibly use with a carb setup.
Will the OEM distributor from any carbureted Ford 302 work for me? I may not need it anyways since I stumbled across my dad's MSD distributor he used on his old carbureted 302 Mustang. I'm soon gonna check it's condition. Will this work?
Also, what all vehicles can I look for to have a C6 tranny in it?
Any OEM carbed 302 distributor should work fine, but I would look for one with vacuum and mechaincal advance. The MSD should also work if it has the correct drive gear on it.
Ok. Well I am looking now for a used tranny I can pull from a scrap yard and rebuild. What trucks/vehicles came with a C6 from the factory? Will a C6 work for me as long as it is for a small block, or does that even matter?
Any C-6 that fits behind a 302 or 351W will work. Most C-6 trannies came from behind a 351 or 361 and up. Ford didn't really think that anyone with a 302 needed all that trans and so fit most with a C-4. There are a few out there behind a 302, but not many in a truck.
I would look for one that came out of a similar vehicle as you have. IE: Short wheel base or long wheel base, 2wd or 4wd, same general body style, such as 80-86, 87-96 etc. Gas or diesel makes a difference with the torque converter due to the different RPM ranges of each.
