I know the AIH is something that is commonly deleted and I'm pretty sure it's only purpose is for extended idleing, but what exactly is it supposed to do for the truck on those extended idles? I live in Alaska and in the winter time, idle times can reach 20 minutes +.
If I lived in Alaska I would leave it, as you probably already know it preheats the incoming air at certine temperatures, some of the more exp guy's will chime in.
It's designed soley to reduce white smoke on cold starts in the winter. It's an emissions related item, and really doesn't do anything for warming up the engine.
Oil temp has to be above 140, parking brake has to be on, and air temp has to be below a set point I cant recall... IE it never comes on...
That's good to know. I don't set my parking brake in the winter because of potential freezing problems so I guess my AIH would never come on anyway. Thanks.
it's pretty large and actually obstructs the air flow. You can simply plug it .. or you can can get a plug with a compression fitting to attach your boost gauge
Has anyone actually felt any performance gains with this? I see the plug is about $8, just curious? Thanks
I certainly didn't, My opinion is that this is a "feel good" mod, doesn't really do anything unless you need the boost reference port.
This would be a great mod for gene to apply some physical modeling to calculate if it really does any good.
