Hey all. I tried to get the dealer to pull the plugs on my '05 and butter them with some anti-seize, but they wanted to charge me for it. So I decided to just do it myself. Can anyone tell me which flavor of anti-seize to use, and how difficult of a job this is? I'm sitting at work right now and can't picture under the hood to get a feel for the complexity of this job.
Also, the service guy said something abt "Helio" plugs (I've never heard of...). He mentioned that Ford says to NOT use them, but they have put them in several trucks with no problems reported. IMO, if Ford says not to do it, this might be an instance where following their advice is the right thing to do. Your thoughts?
The anti-seize recommendation is:
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 border=1><TBODY><TR><TD align=left>XL-2</TD><TD align=left>Motorcraft High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
You will also need to warm the engine up not hot, and use a penetratiing oil as per the TSB. Do not be in a hurray, do it as per the TSB or you may suffer plug breakage.
To be honest, you might be better off paying the dealer to do it. Make sure if you do, that the dealer will absorb all costs if the plugs break!
