well the title pretty much says it all. Guy at my work has pretty much the exact same truck as me except its a 6.0 and a speed he said his truck started doing a clunk noise like mine at 40,000 miles and said he replaced his front trac bar bushings. I know my ball joints and tie rod ends are all good and tight the ball joints have been replaced and are greasable kinda. I was thinking maybe hub's or something but I think the noise would be a lot more consistent right now it dose it at will. I went summit and ordered a new set of bushing to see if that would fix it anyone else have any experience with this problem?
Yup, mine was leafspring bushings on the shackle end. Look at the spring eye and make sure the shacklebolt is in the center of the spring eye. If it looks like its sitting lower than centre your bushings are probably junk. Good luck.
mine did the exact same thing and it ended up being the steering stabalizer bushings.
Just one more thing to check or sway bar links.
Hope this helps
Billy
thanks for the info I was thinking leaf spring bushings could also be it. But figured I would try these first since they were cheap and relatively easy to replace with the help of the press at work. Plus from what I heard from the guy at work. I think my steering stabilizer is good as well as the bushing's I actually had to replace it. Was the very first thing I had to replace actually about a week after I owed it I noticed it was leaking So i bought a skyjacker steering stabilizer from summit for 35.00 dollars or so. It came with the new bushings. I will try these and take a better look at the leaf spring bushings any other thoughts would be great. Funny to I was just thinking tonight all i need to get my truck to perfect shape again is a new spare tire holder my cable snapped and how that happened is beyond me. A new bumper cause mine has a dent in it LOL thanks to me and a new windshield i has a crack in it thanks to the car in front of me. Once I fix this clunk noise should be perfect once again LOL and I still owe 4 more years on it GREAT

well I checked all those things and it all felt tight I do have some play in my tie rod ends but I just dont see them making the loud clunk noise that it dose its almost like something is under tensior then pops free I had a few other guys at my work look around it with me and you can definately feel a vibration in the trac bar. I put my hand on the tie rod ends while making the noise and I couldnt feel anything. so Im hoping its the trac bar bushing
Finally got the new trac bar busing's I ordred from summit they were back ordered. So I had to wait a few weeks to get them. It took me a couple of hours to do It was pretty hard to get the old ones out evening using the 20 ton press. But they finally came out. Putting the new polyurethan bushings in was kinda hard to again the press came in really handy. I had to modifie a steel sleeve from the old bushing to fit into the new bushing. the upper trac bar bolt was to small to fit tightly in the new bushing and it looks to be a special bolt so I just machined off some metal off the old bushings steel sleeve and then pressed it into the new bushings steel sleeve. put the trac bar back on and sure enough no pop noise when turning. I am pleased to have finally fixed it the pop noise was getting louder and sounded like something was breaking off under there everytime I turned it. Kind of amazing that a small part like that could make such a loud noise like it did. if anyone else has a problem like this definately check those bushings. I was really able to pin point it by putting my hand on the trac bar and having someone turn the wheels back n fourth countless times I could feel a vibration in the bar every time it would make the noise thanks for everyones input
