I have a '89 F-250LD with a 302. According to the book... 185 hp and 240 ft pounds of torque. Let's just say the stumps will be safe. Another thing that sucks about my 302 powered truck is, my brother's 460 getts about the same fuel mileage.

Is the 89 250 302 carbed or efi. I know the f150s are efi. If yours has the same 302 engine thats in the f150s it should be 185hp and 270/275 lb ft torque.

I think you sould use the HO motor. If you could convert it back to EFI by finding a mustang comp and using the van intake, you could make yourself a pretty good setup. The longer runners on the van intake help with low end torque. If you convert to MAF like the HO motor came stock, your fuel mileage will be better and you need to convert to MAF anyway to use the mustang comp. You may want to stick with your carb setup if you dont feel up to messing with the fuel injection.

Yes, use the truck EFI system on the HO motor.. but the E cam will have to go. You only have to look at this page to find out why....
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=1329

Of particular importance are notes 1 & 7, the cam will require mass air and a high stall converter, both very bad news. Put a stock HO cam or even an Explorer cam back in it and you're good to go.

Yeah the cam would not work with the speed density system on the f150. Do you have the stock cam? Cause like consaski said, if you put it back in, the f150 comp will work. I got the feeling you just wanted to slap the engine in since it was already together, but if you feel like putting the old cam back in, more power to you.

fuel injected pre MAF 5.0 engines in f150s were 185hp and ones with MAF had 200hp.
