Talked to a dealer friend of mine today and he has a 2004 F250 SC 4x4 with a V10 and a manual in it with 80k that I can buy for 14k. Does anyone know how these are with a manual. I've driven some with the auto and I have the same truck in an 07 with the 5.4 and an auto. I'm looking for something to use as a farm truck and put a flatbed with bale spike on. I would assume that the manual would be better for pulling, but I don't know much about it. I know they made changes in 05 and that I need to watch the plugs and stuff, but would appreciate any info.
TIA

Can you be more specific about your question? My answer would be "Better than with an auto!" but that's only because I much prefer the manual tranny. Others think differently.
They are truck transmissions- very heavy duty, less issues than the automatics, unless the driver isn't good with the clutch, and then there may be clutch life issues.
Maybe it is just me, but the price seems high. Of course I am cheap.
As for the 6-speed, as stated above it is a heavy truck trannie. I love my manual, which is used a lot on the ranch.
My boss has a f550 with the 6speed that has 230000 miles of towing 18000 lb loads all the time and the clutch is the original one!! I love the manuals, but the only drawback is that if anything does break, the manual is rediculously expensive, i once replaced an output shaft on one and that alone cost 1500 dollars!
If you think the manual transmission is expensive to have worked on, check out the maintance cost and replacement or rebuild cost of the automatic. That will make an impact on ones budget in a negative way real fast.
Don't ask me how I know.
Oh i know that autos are really expensive too, but you can buy a reman auto easy for $3500, the manuals are a bit harder to come by and are more expensive, but you really shouldnt have to ever replace a manual if the driver is careful as it was stated before, the 6speed is a workhorse of a tranny.
