While i was going thru the pile of parts in the donors bed today this was on the bottom of the pile. I didn't know it was in there, The guy i bought it from said it had been gone for a while.
It's got its share of pits which body filler can smooth over and a couple of dents but it's fairly strait.
Getting the blasting done around here is a problem. I've only found one place and they want 125.00 an hour. Funny thing is the guy has the same setup that our local tool supply has for around 300 bucks. Maybe i'm in the wrong buisness.
Have you tried a place that makes headstones? A lot of them do blasting as a side line. In this area there a quite a few places that blast parts and the prices vary quite a bit from place to place so you have to shop around.
If it were mine I would cut out the center section with the script and hang it on the wall. Repops are too easy (and cheap) to come by...no sense spending weeks resurrecting the dead, that is unless you really need the practice.
Check around for a contractor's rental yard, you likely could rent the equipment for 1/2 day for less than that hourly rate, especially if you could blast everything that needs it all at once, the big rigs make fast work of it.
From personal experience it doesn't pay to do it yourself. It's dirty, hot and if you don't have experience you can end up with a piece in a lot worse condition than you started with. It's very easy to push the blaster and end up warping a piece of sheet metal. You also have to have a place to do it. As stated above, it's extremely messy, the media you use will get everywhere no matter how careful you try to contain it. I had the entire cab and rear doors of my panel, inside and out along with epoxy primed for $600. This was about five years ago, the price might be a little higher now but not much. I also had a 8N tractor, just the main frame including engine and rear axle as one unit, along with the rear weights, blasted and epoxy primed for $300 about two year ago. I found a business near my house, with experience, do the job. Next I am going to take a set of 20" truck rims and the heating radiators from my house and have him blast them.
I have a 6' X 6' X 6' blasting cabinet in my shop that I do small parts but I wouldn't waste my time blasting bigger items again.
Take two handfulls of sand. Rub all over your face eyes and ears. Make sure to throw some down your neck. Then decide if you like the feeling and want to attempt it yourself for an hour or so hahha.
No really if you have the extra bucks pay a pro. I hate sandblasting. I do it on occasion but no matter what type of gear you have you will eat sand for afew days.
From what i understand theres only two company's blasting around here and with the price per hour one is charging i could imagine what the other charges, Although i haven't found the other one yet. I think theres a headstone place not far from me, I'll have to look into it. My other alternative is the Charlotte area which I'm an hour or so away from, Heck i might just leave it a wall hanger.
