I am tired of thinking about it. I have a 2005 f250 with the 18" conti's on it. They ride like crap and I would like to find something to replace them with. I don't haul a lot of weight, so I don't necessarily need the ultra-stiff sidewall. I would like to go a little bigger with a 305/70 or maybe even a 35x12.50 but I don't want to pay some of the prices I am seeing of upwards of $300 per tire. I don't have to go bigger, but I like the look and thought a little beefier tire would help the ride. I would prefer an aggressive looking all terrain, but I am willing to consider anything you guys have had experience with.
I've had good luck with BFG A/T and M/T. I've heard others talk bad about them but they worked good for me. I've seen the A/T in 315/75R16 for $197 and the M/T for about $240. I'm not sure about the 18" though.
Go with goodyear Wrangler silent armor I think they make a bigger size than 275/70 18 Go to tire rack.com & compare.I paid like $195 per tire & got a $20 rebate per tire.Quiet with good traction.Jim
I love my Toyo Open Coutry M/Ts. I'm not sure about pricing in your size though. Give Marty at Truck Toyz Performance a call and I'm sure he would be able to get you a good price.
I'd second the nomination for tire rack...i've bought 5 sets of tires from them over the years...saved about a "C" note on each set over the best price locally...more than enough to buy another set!!! It's at least worth a look.
I second the goodyear wrangler with silent armor. I got 235 85 r16 load range E for about $150/tire. Dont know what larger sizes they make but I have been really satisfied with the tires. I called my tire guy and told him I wanted the best tire he had for my truck. That is what he suggested. That was about a year and a half ago and I am really satisfied. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.
i got mmine at sullivan tire for $1200, mounted balanced and road hazard! i thought it was a good price, and they got road force balanced, even though i had to go back 4 times to get them right im happy! pics are in gallery, ill update soon with better ones!
For you guys that order from somewhere like tirerack.com or TruckToyz Performance, what do you do about rotations and balancing? For instance, if I buy my tires locally, I can get lifetime rotation and balance (every 5000 to 7000 miles) for an additional $20 at the time they are installed. However, if I buy them from somewhere else (such as online) and have them installed locally, they won't sell me lifetime rotation and balance, so I have to pay $5 per wheel each time I have them rotated and rebalanced. So at $20 bucks every 7000 miles, and assuming I could get 50,000 miles out of the tires, I would have spent an additional $142 on rotation and balance throughout the life of the tires.
When I bought mine, Truck Toyz was pretty much the only place in the country that had them. However, there was a few places in town that said they could order them and have them in about 4 weeks. They were all a lot more expensive than Truck Toyz was though. So even though I will have to pay for balancing and rotating them I still saved money.
I run 325/60R18 Goodyear Silent Armor Pro Grades.....not cheap.
Toyo Open Country M/T in a 33/12.50R18 will also fit under a stock truck.....also, not cheap.
You would need at least a leveling kit for a 35/12.50R18
anybody tried the Big O Big Foot X/T? I just talked to their store here and they quoted me 325 installed with warranty per tire for the stock size of 275/70/18 though I think that is a little high

I understand. I'm in the same situation. When these factory tires wear out, I am going to get Toyo M/T tires, but will have to order them from somewhere and have them installed locally because no one around here sells them. I guess I'll just have to eat the cost each time they need to be balanced. So far I've rotated my tires 4 times in the driveway and haven't needed to have them rebalanced yet. Hopefully I'll have the same luck on my new tires.
The only thing that kept me from buying the GY Silent Armor tires for my Excursion was the fact that the kevlar band inside of it allows the tire to get a flat spot if the truck sits fro a couple of days. The flat spot rounds back out while driving, but I just didn't want to fool with that.
Instead, I went with the Bridgestone Revos, and I am absolutely in love with the things. I keep wanting to switch them off my wife's Excursion and put them on my F250, but I just can't take those good treads away from my wife. Those tires make the Ex feel like I'm riding on superglue when running the course of curves through our neighborhood. Excellent traction. Excellent bite into the road. Outstanding water removal when we're hit with a frog-strangler.
Next set of tires I get are going to be the Revos again.

I would never ever consider putting an import tire(TOYO) on my American truck!
I dont have the flag waving in my front yard for nothing!
