i have this vibration/ chattermy buddy works at monroe so he fells its near the tcase. so on the lift and in drive you can hear the gears/bearings in the tcase. he called a buddy at ford and found a tsb about teh pumping goin bad and in turn the planetary gears go also.
now could it be the transmission needing to be flushed? and the noise be transfersing back. as you get on and off the gas the tail of the tcase vibrates but the mount is good. i guss flushing the trans wouldnt hurt before i spend the money on the tcase. anyone have these symptoms?
also if i have to swap the tcase can i run a 4wd tcase instead of the awd? im guessing it would help with fuel economy right??
so i changed the fluid in the case and the noise isnt as bad. but.... after i put in to 4wdhi it makes all kinds of noise. almost sounds like the front diff is empty. (being awd i know its not) but just as bad is that i have to back up to disengage 4wd.
so i pulled the plug to the 4wd unit. went out to beat on it a bit and no moise at all. nothing but smooth shifts and tire spin. im thinking that the shift motor is going bad and cant hold the clutch in place.
i changed the fluid in teh front diff and plugged the fuse in for the awd. got better but still not gone.
i took it to a trans shop and he said it was because of the front tires not being teh same wear/brand as the rears. the backs are bfg and teh fronts are futura. same size on the sidewalls but a noticable difference in the tread depth
