[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Jul-02 AT 07:08 PM (EST)]Probably a dumb question, but what is different about the 4.2 vs. the 4.0 ? Was thinking about trying to find a 4.2 and gradually doing a performance rebuild to eventually put in my truck, a '94 4.0-4wd-auto Ranger.
Is it basically the same motor? Are the intake and the exhaust manifolds same, etc ? Can you make a 4.2 out of a 4.0 ?
One more thing, anyone know how far you can bore a 4.2 ?
(If you already saw this in 4.0 forum - sorry - I should have put it here first.)
NO! The 4.0 is a modified 2.9 witch comes from the German 2.8. They are 60 degree v6 engines. The 4.2 is a 90 degree enlarged version of the 3.8 from the car line. Some parts can interchange from the 3.8 to the 4.2. The 4.0 is total different animal.
Thanks 99F150, for the info. For those that want to see a little more on this, go to the same topic in the 4.0 forum. In hind site, I maybe shouldn't have double posted it.
