Well let me start off by saying that its 10:30 at night. I started this project at 9:30 this mornin. Bought a pair of Pace setter headers for my truck. Figured they cant be too bad to put on as i tore into the stock manifold. What a PITA. FIrst of all i broke 2 studs inside the block. Tried to drill em and use a easy out, and could not get them. So ended up staying there for now. Then the darn EGR valve would not line up for the life of me, and took me hours messing with the thing, doing a little custom bending, to finally get it on. Needless to say i was thinking this would be a complete waste of time and extreme aggrevation...until i drove it. And man, that truck will move now. I didnt think it would make that much of a difference. I guess it all equals out in the end... I wouldnt not recommend doin this tho unless you got a bunch of time and patience.

I put JBA headers on my F150. They were a PITA to install but I could really tell the difference with them. They really helped my midrange power. I soaked the studs with PB blaster the day before installed the headers. It took me 8 hrs but everything went right. I didn't break any bolts. I did have to bend the egr pipe a little. I took the fender liners out & could see all the bolts. The JBA headers lasted real good. I put over 70,000 hard miles on them without the first leak or problem.
Mine sucked huge b***s as well. I bought some cheap flowtechs, got them ceramic coated, and just recently I broke a wield at the collecter pipe. I throw the stock manifolds back on and I am never looking back.
best to fix them, its a good spot for a premature leak to start. so boys, are jba and pacesetter both decent ones to try?? i've been looking for them for my 4.6, but no one wants to comment in the exhaust section...
If I were to do all over again, and I do mean if, I would go with long tubes and get a custom Y-pipe to ensure a good fit. I have heard several times that most makes of shorties headers have a problem for fitting properly.
I put the Kooks longtubes on mine 5 years ago and really like them. About a 4 hour install the first time, but no bolts broke off. I've a few sets since and have it down to about 2 hours if there are no problems.
