Electrical Problems

Hey all,
I have an apparent drain on my batteries due to something being grounded in the system. I have recently replaced the alternator and batteries after having them checked at the auto parts store. When I started the truck, all seemed well but then the volt meter went down, the charge light came on, and the voltage regulator was pistol hot. I disconnected the negative leads from the batteries and put a test light between the negative post and the cable and got a light. This indicates that something is grounded and draining the system. Has anyone had this problem and could you steer me to some possible culprits to perhaps save HOURS of checking the wiring harness?

Thanks

What year and what engine ??

And depending on the current draw of your test light, it may not be indicating a short.
Shorts usually blow fuses.

With the test light installed, maybe you could just start pulling fuses, when the light goes out you found the circuit. The you could go from there. Good luck.
