Angry Heads vs. Manifold

351W block 302 Heads I have had the same trouble before on a 351 with 302 heads, just want to check with the other members concerning water leeks.the heads are of C80E (1968) when I place the manifold gasket on them I have an area that dose not get coverd and must be pluged with silecone. Is it the year of the heads or am I using the wrong gaskets?

most gaskets have enough to cover the holes. They should have a cut out made into them so they work on either head. I use felpro..not sure on the number.

well I am useing the early 302 with 58cc chambers, the gasket covers all of the intake just fine and most of the head. But at the front (right head) and the exact place on the left head wich of course is at the back, the gasket is just larger than the matting service. I will look up the ford part #s thanks.JNT

If you're trying to use 302 heads on an early 351W, you must also swap intakes to a later (77-up) 351W The early Windsor intakes have 4 extra bolt holes in the coolant ports (1 per port) that will be open holes if you use a non early Windsor head under it.

are you using the 302 heads for the compression or what? you would probably be better off getting some aftermarket heads that will flow better and have a choice on CC size, anyway just a thought!

Well this is engine #2 that I have done in my shop (351W) with 302 heads and felpro gaskets, that have given me trouble at the afore mentioned spots. If you do not put sealer in the corner of the gaskets you have a water leak. I do not under stand why its just me!

here is a 351W head i ported..only pic I could find......

I can see where the intake might leak if the bolt hole was not pluged or the early intake was not used like baddad457 said.....
