[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Aug-02 AT 12:15 PM (EST)]My understanding is that the 4.2's have iron heads. The engine is NOT part of the triton family of engines. Tritons include the 4.6 and 5.4 V8's and the 6.8 V10.
Nope. 4.2s and 3.8s have aluminum heads. A 4.2 is a enlarged 3.8. Both are JUNK. I work at a Ford dealer and have quite a bit of bad opinions about those engines.
Again,i ask you, what makes the 4.2 a bad motor? If you work for FORD then you have the inside scoop on this motor...please tell me what FORD is not telling!!;-)
I would like to know also. What is your job at the dealer? I have owned 3.8's that I drove to 200,000 with out problem and I have 53,000 on my 4.2 in my 99 S/C that runs like a V8.
When these 4.2s come in what is the major reason they are bad?Are they from different year trucks? I mean,if mine is a piece of junk i want to know what, when, why and how to look for it crapping out on me!!!:-X23
My truck has the symptoms of the timing cover gasket leaking. How many have you seen with this problem and what is the fix? Is there some help from Ford I could expect? The truck seems fine except for the engine.
Simon.
