Intake manifold - 351W

I need to replace the stock intake on my '85 351W, since it's got a LOT of old emissions crap that was removed, and is now extremely leaky... Plus, it's got a cracked runner on the driver's side in the middle.

My question here is, what is a good aftermarket intake for these engines that isn't horribly expensive? I'm not looking at making a hotrod out of the truck, it's just a daily driver, so any of the Performer RPM or Air Gap intakes would probably be overkill.

Would a regular Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake with my 500cfm Holley 4bbl carb (rebuilt aftermarket) work well, or should I go with a different intake and/or carb? Every previous intake swap I've done was for performance engines, not basically stock ones, so I have no idea what would work best.

I suppose a cast iron intake from an older (pre emissions) 351 would be a good way to go, but finding one might not be easy. Any suggestions?

I would go with a regular edelbrock or similar brand aluminum intake. They will flow a little better and remove a ton of weight from your truck.

I put an edelbrock performer intake on my pickup and ditched all the emissions stuff on it also. Well worth the money. I think 500cfm would be a little on the small side I use a 600cfm but its still a little small.

Thanks for the replies. The more research I do, the better those Edelbrock Performer aluminum intakes look. They're the least expensive aftermarket I can find, and I already know they're very light.

As for the carb, the 500 I have now works quite well, even with all my vacuum leaks, but I wasn't sure how it'd react to the better flowing intake. I had always used at least a 600cfm in the past, but since this thing rarely ever gets more than about a quarter throttle, I don't think I'll be hurting anything leaving the small one on. If it turns out to be too weak, I have a lot of extra Holley parts lying around, I could just re-jet it later on.

When replacing this intake, I've always heard to NOT use the rubber end gaskets, but rather just slather it with gasket sealer. Is this true, or just an "old wive's tale"? I'd like to get this done right the first time, and not worry about it leaking when I'm done.

I've never used the rubber end parts. Just a nice bead of silicone.
