Well with 36,000 original miles on the truck/ Pirelli Scorpions it's time for new truck tires for my 2005 SuperDuty 4x4 Diesel truck.
What I want to know is what is a good tire with a Load rating E for this truck that will last at least 50K miles. I'm not interested in BFG mud terrains or All Terrains...i want a good riding, wearing lasting tire. I do ocassional trailer towing then the rest is highway driving.
Let me know what you've had good experience with.
I put the goodyear silent armor on my truck early this year, they handle great but I did loose about .5mpg...
Really? I'm kind of surprised. I would have thought the silent armor would have a lower rolling resistance (or the same) than most truck tires. Same tire pressure and size?
One of the best all around truck tires I have ever owned are the Cooper Discoverer ATR. Good all around tread. E rated. 50,000 mile treadwear warranty. This tire does well in wet conditions, snow, mud, ice, dry road, and minor off road conditions. As soon as my current tires on my 2005 show a little more wear (BF Goodrich Rugged Trail), I will buy another set of Coopers - probably before winter sets in up here.
I was pleased with the 265 bfg rugged trails that came on my truck. I went with a bigger tire but sold them to a guy with a 2500 dodge and he got 50k miles out of them. The 4k miles they were on my truck they rode really well.
If you are not a big 4x4 enthusiast the I would look into the Michelin line of Truck tires. I had a set on my last truck and got 65+K on them...They last for ever if you do your part. Alignment and Rotation.

Good Luck.
I seriously didn't like the last set of Michelins I had on a truck. Wet traction wasn't any good, snow was terrible. I took them off at 30k and gave them to a single Mom who couldn't afford new tires.
Granted, that was a while ago, but still I have serious reservations about purchasing a French tire.
