I bought my 94 F150 new. I remember seeing F350 Superduty, but not a F250 Superduty...which means nothing other than there probably wasn't one on the lot. And that I didn't see any in the pickup capital of the world.
well, here is what i can recall......they had the standard f150-350 along with what would be a f450 i guess but they called it a superduty, it was 2 wheel drive and had the straight axel up front.
in 1997? they had a f250 light duty, which was the same body style as the new style f150's, but it had 7 lugs, then they had the f250 heavy duty which was the use to be standard f250, d50 front, 8 lugs ect.....
then for model year 1999? they started calling the f250's and up the superduty line and the f150 was still just the f150.

Yeah he's right before 97 only 450 were considered superdutys but you could order them 4x4
starting in i believe it was 90 or 91, you could get a F250 light duty, or a F250 Heavy Duty
the difference was in the size of the springs, and the difference meant a low gvwr, or a higher gvwr
it was clearly marked as a F250HD on the back of the truck.
this is an edit of my earlier post. i got the SD and HD mixed up.
back in 88 you could get a super duty dual wheel cab chassis. it was the same as what is now called the F450

Up until about early '97 they had F-250 standard and F-250HD (heavy duty) models. The HD had a full floater rear axle and a higher load rating than the standard model.
The Super Duty was usually a chassis cab model truck or similar heavy duty truck but not as an F-250. 96onefifty and BF250 mentioned that the SD was an F-450 or larger deal. That matches what I seem to remember.
In mid-year '97 the entire lineup along with the designations changed. For a while you could get up to 4 different versions of the F-250. Must be fun getting parts for a '97.
