Poly plows usually don't provide any weight savings, most of the time they are heavier because they need more bracing. Steel blades use the moldboard for strength, so that's where the weight savings comes from.
Steel and poly both have steel edges, so it doesn't matter, they will both 'tear' up driveways, although I really haven't noticed an issue. If it is, use a urethane edge.
If you want productivity, look into Blizzards. That way you can have a 8' and a 10' plow or an 8'6" and 11' plow. They are heavy, I have 2 of the LoPro's on 350's--an '02 and an '05--and 2 of the full size on 550's. Another nice option they have if you are still concerned about weight is the SpeedWing. I have one of those on a 3500 and it will outperform any straight blade out there.
