Transmission troubles

Well to start things off i just want to say that im new to this site. So be gentle. My friend has a 76 ford pick-up and he is having trouble with the tranny. Its an automatic so im guessing a C6. we just got the truck runnin but whenever you first put it into gear there is about a 10 second delay before the tranny actually gets into first. This happens on start-up and after coming to a complete stop. Im stumped. Once it actually hooks up, its goes through the gears just fine. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

leaking past a seal inside tranny. 10 sec is extremely long so I think its rebuild time. Has it sat for a long time? You could try the Ford tranny conditioner or Lucas tranny conditioner.

Just rebuilt mine for the same thing- seals on the foreward clutch will be rock hard. Be sure to check the clearance on this clutch pack when you reassemble- the snap ring that retains the return spring and the snap ringthat holds the top pressure plate can be reversed this will leave you with too much clearance in the pack.

It did sit for a couple of years before we got it running. Does anyone know where to order a good inexpensive rebuild kit?

I think this is a good deal. don't forget to get a new torque converter,
the old converter could contaminate the trans.
