I'm gonna have to replace my master/slave cylinder tomorrow. I understand the slave takes a quarter turn and comes out. What about the other end? I haven't looked yet so I don't know where the master connects. Are there any of those little plastic clips to watch out for?
Does anyone know if the prebled unit is available at a parts store, or will this be a dealer item only?
I bought mine at powerstroke shop. I would also get the black plastc clip and a new rod on the master cylinder side. Not really worth the hassle to get it apart. I do know I saved almost 60 bucks not going to my local dealer.
I'll have to take it apart to see what clip and rod you are talking about. I went to the powerstrokeshop website and did not see the pre-bled unit. Did I miss it or did you buy the parts and bleed it yourself?
No I had to call them. I couldn't find it either. Take a look up at your clutch pedal assy. The silver rod in the end of the master cylinder is what i'm refering to. The black clip holds it in place onto the clutch pedal assy. The safety switch has a light colored(at least mine did) clip that slides(dont remember which way) to remove.
I paid 137$ from the local dealership for the master/slave assembly plus another 7 bucks for the rod that connects the clutch petal and master cylinder. I couldnt get the original rod out of the old master cylinder ended up braking the rod in two. Watch out taking the rod off the clutch petal. When I removed mine I was laying on my floorboard and the clutch petal came back and hit me in the mouth. Just a piece of advice.
Well I can't find the rod or clip on any of the local auto parts store websites, so I guess I'll be stuck going to the Ford house Monday. I don't have time right now to wait on parts in the mail, so I guess I'll be out the extra $60.

Are you sure its bad? I know it helped mine but I still have shifting problems I guess due to worn syncros. Time to save my pennies and dimes!

I know the slave is bad, pedals on the floor unless I pry it up. The auto stores that show a pre bled unit on their website say it ships in 2 - 3 days.
I know when I bought mine Powerstroke Shop had the best price on it. The silver rod has to come off the pedal assy before the master cylinder will come out. It has a rod end. I suck at describing things typing LOL but if you take a good look at it you'll see what I mean.
I was reading through here. I am in the middle of the master cylinder replacement and stopped when I got to the putting the new rod into the cylinder. I need to go and get some c clip pliers to install. Seems to me that forcing it in there is not the right thing to do.
Anyhow, I bought the kit from my dealer for $70.
2 questions:
How do you bleed and refill everything?
Since the pedal was sticking to the floor, I am now considering replacing the slave cylinder as well. How difficult and how do you get it out to replace?

Thanks .
I thought I had replied to this but I don't see it so here it goes again. If you haven't installed the master yet I'd trade it in for the pre bled unit.
I just forced the metal rod into the master. It snapped right into place. I pulled the old one out of the old master and played with it first to make sure.
Since I bought the pre bled unit I can't offer any tips on how to bleed the system.
The slave comes out easily. I used a pair of channel locks. 1/4 turn CCW and it will come out. Pull it out slowly, and before it is all the way out stick your finger in the hole to hold the plastic tip in place so it doesn't fall into the bell housing.
Thanks for the help. So, the pre-bled unit is something I will file away when this happens again. Stupid me thought I could get away with only replacing part of this.
The c-clip pliers are purchased and will not do the work. I am back to forcing the rod into the cylinder, but cannot get a good hold on it to do so. I tried with the clutch pedal, but it will not bottom it out ; I guess I will figure something out.
Thank you for the heads up on the slave cylinder thing. I will tackle it once I get the rest of this done up top.
I suppose there is a bleeder valve on the system somewhere???
