Question 7.3 0r 6.0

i am looking at getting a powerstroke but don't know whch one to get the 7.3L or the 6.0L. I want somthing with the most power after mods but still somthing very reliable. I herd the 6.os had quite a few issues but did the solve them in latter modles?
if u have any advice please give me an idea

IMO, go with the 7.3, can't go wrong with this engine. It has proven itself over the years, and there are plenty of mod's you can do also. I'm sure more will chime in later. Just my .02

A good 6.0 will smoke a 7.3. All things being equal. There are many success stories out there with the 6.0. There appears to be far more with the 7.3. It is a dated but tried and true design. The 6.0 is, well, a crap shoot. I guess you just drive that until something happens, or you get lucky. Whatever you choose, make it a Ford.

If you get a 6.0, try to get a later (05 or newer) one. They seem to have the least problems as they got most of the kinks worked out by then. However that may be out of your price range. The 7.3 will be very reliable, 99-early 01 you can get 500 horsepower out of it and still have great reliability with several thousand dollars of mods. Get a 6.0, their weak link is the head studs/EGR. They suffer from the 4-bolt-per-cylinder syndrome while the 7.3 has 6. So when you begin modifying you can easily float a head. I'd prefer to pull the engine to do studs. But it's VERY easy to get insane horsepower out of a 6.0. 550 is very easy with a turbo, 190-215cc injectors, and head studs along with the normal slew of mods. A 6.0 with even stock injectors and just a hot tune is nothing i'd race my truck against.

Buy a late model Super Duty of your liking and 'destroke' it.

A CR 24v 5.9 is capable of 700-800 daily driveable horses...

Hmmm, reliabilty AND horsepower. Wait a minute, I've got that now and no problems holding the 6.0s at bay.

i test drove a 05 6.0 psd in a f-350 with a 6 inch left and 35's on it and was not impressed at all.... altough the turbo whissle was awesome very nice purr to it.. but it didnt feel like it had enough on the start but once she got up to speed ran like a champ... then i went and drove my truck and it had more power all around both nice trucks but i knew that the 6.0 had a "history" and my had has a 00" f250 with the 7.3 and that thing is a beast 3 trips back and forth on the alcan wisconsin to alaska not a single problem pullin a 25 foot trailer loaded to the gills with household stuff... think we had about 14000 pounds give or take a few... after that trip i knew what i wanted will be psd forever in with this guy 7.3 for teh win

The only problems with the 6.0 i dont like is the low-end lag. Combination of the FMC programming to limit low-end smoke by cutting fuel, doesn't help spool the charger and thus making it lag. But once you get past 1750 rpm, it's just hell on the transmission.

I would say get the 7.3 for longevity, the 6.0 for the quickness. Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with either, but I can say that I have not been disappointed with my 7.3 *after mods*. I beat or at least keep up with everything I've encountered so far. Never been embarrassed by a d-max or CTD at all, even mod'ed ones. I'm more than happy with everything, and don't regret buying the "old" technology at all. It's super fun showing bozos ricers/gasser pickups tail lights when they think they're the fastest thing on the road...
