B&W Turnover Ball Completely Stuck:(

Ok, so I've got a B&W Turnover ball gooseneck hitch in the bed and was planning to buy some drywall for a project this morning so I needed to remove the ball to get a flat bed - easy, right? Nope.

I can't seem to get the ball out of the receiver for the life of me: I've sprayed it with PB blaster, pounded on it from below and yanked on it from the top. Quite frankly I'm plumb out of ideas as to how to get the darn thing out, anyone ever experienced a similar problem? Any ideas on how to get it the heck out? I did think of using a jack but there is no way I can get one in their with the rear diff in the way, at least not that I can see. Your suggestions are welcomed and much appreciated.

Hammer from the bottom is all I can say Knock it back and forth, WD40 the heck out of it, etc. Eventually it'll loosen up.

Yep, the pin is pulled. One thing I did notice is that the pin fails to hold in the unlocked position, i.e. it wants to spring back in and lock the ball. I had a buddy help me out and hold the pin in the open position but no luck. Looks like I need to call B&W to find a dealer to figure out what the heck is wrong with my turnover ball

I like mudmakers idea. I've never had a gooseneck, so I don't know, but it sounds good to me!

Pull the lever then twist it. It'll latch open

That's a great idea, too bad my gooseneck is out on the west coast

I wish it would latch open, but it won't twist at all despite W40 & PB Blasting it to death.

my guess would be that you have some sand or small rocks jambed in the socket. happens to mine in the winter. maybe try a presure washer and see what happens

I would wonder if your pin is actually sliding out of the ball personally...

make sure the rod is not bent, or out of the keepers on the bottom of the hitch. It sounds like the pin is not quite releasing. I have one in my '79 that requires me to pull the rod and then push the rod back towards the back of the truck instead of rotate it to lock it in the unlocked position. You should be able to crawl under the truck and verify if the pin is releasing far enough. A few good taps with a bar/punch and a hammer should elease the ball if it is unlocked.

If I had to guess, I would get real personal with the pin holding the ball in place. It sounds like you have a problem there. The ball would be moving a little when you beat on it if it was not pinned.

Just my guess.

I would agree you have something wrong. I have them in a '94, '01 and '04. The one inthe '94 rarely ever gets turned over but when i need to it just takes a couple of taps on the ball and it pulls right up. On my '04 I had a rhino liner sprayed in after the ball was put in and the first time I tried to turn it over after that I had to get a little western with it as some of the line bonded to the ball and seeped inside the holder. They are one of the best ***** I have found for the money.

Yep, my hitch was seriously out of whack, I ended up having to take it to a local dealer who had to replace the whole middle section. His thinking was that if he removed the middle section he could pound out the ball. Guess what? No luck, we still could not get the ball out.

The dealer said that he had never heard or seen anything like this before - just my luck. In the end the dealer replaced the middle section for a very reasonable rate.

Thanks all for the advice!
