I need some help i have a problem with my 2006 250 i have a loss in power steering when at idle but when i increase rpm it comes back slowly and then when i back off i lose brakes as well i think that it may be a vacuum problem or my pump any help would be very helpful thanks in advance
your brakes are not vacuum operating. you have what's known as Hydro-Boost. it uses the power steering pump to pump fluid to the master cylinder. It works very well.
are you running larger tires than stock ? i have 35's and have noticed my power steering is very weak sometimes especially at parking lot speeds, some times it seems to fail altogether. i suspected a bad power steering pump or gear box, but it has gone away and hasnt happened again for several months. i would assume the gearbox over the pump for me though since even when it was failing, i never had a loss of braking power. pop the hood and look at the way it's designed, it's actually very impressive, i think the half tons should have done this too.
i hope this helps answer your question
well i just noticed your signature. i believe your tires are taxing your power steering system, and if that is the case, ford may deny warranty work claiming your oversize tires are the reason for the failure. my buddy's shop quoted me around 300 bucks in parts to change the pump IIRC... changing the failing part will keep the contaminated fluid from prematurely wearing out the rest of the system.
no thats not i becaus ive had the tires for months i pulled off on to soft sand and turned around and it went stiff and the breaks are acting up as well
i've had mine for a year too, i'm just saying that if the steering and the brakes started acting up at the same time, the reason for that is that the power brake booster is powered by the power steering pump. i think i may have used the word 'power' too much but there is a direct link there, does this make sense ?
I had a brake problem with my 2006 F-250 6L . Dealer found air in brake line. They bled them and it's been good ever scince. Have had anything happen with sterring. Hope this helps!
