ok, i just bought a 87 fsb, took it out, first mudhole i hit it sucked in water. didnt hydrolock(thank god) but sputtered pretty bad till it dried out. at first i wasnt sure if it was the water or not so i did it again, same thing. if anyone has a suggestion on a type of intake kit to get to reduce this problem it would be awesome. although i really dont want a snorkel......
btw its the inline 6 engine, not sure the ci......
How fast are you going when you hit the mud holes?
the stock air intake is tucked up pretty tight to the hood.
I think some driving finesse is in order for this one.
Or you may have to create your own snorkel - this maybe your best bet.
and the most affordable-
your I6 is 300 cid and don't you forget it!
seriously - if you plan to do some serious mudding, you may have to move the intake.
thanks, as for my speed, im in new mexico, all the mud has a REALLY soft sandy bottom. if u dont keep up the speed you sink like a rock. the mud i was going through was really no deeper than the rockers it just all tidal waved under the hood. and i dont think it was the distributer because after it dried out, if i went up a hill at a weird angle it would do it again as though there was still some residual water in the tubes.
as for driving finess, i grew up in pennsylvania driving big trucks, i know how to drive in mud and water, i just know that ford has always put the intake right behind the headlights. my dad recently hydrolocked his 93 ranger and broke a connecting rod because of that.
thnaks for all the advise, but im still having the problem eventhough i built a new intake and its not getting water in it. any more ideas? im thinking that it might be an electrical issue.
