Question A/C vent Selecter

1997 Ford F-250 HD 4x4 351...

When I turn the selevter know to anypostion other than off, it only comes out the defrost vents. I tried pushing in the little "ac box?" under the dash and then it comes out the proper vents.

Is this a vaucumn issue. 90% of my vacumn lines under the hood are either broken or missing. Could this be the problem.

I highly appriciate any information. I do not know too much about how the a/c system works, and my service manual doesnt help too much.

Thanks guys!

Replacing vacuum lines would be a good start and couldn't hurt a thing. However, I've had a similar problem which repairing vacuum lines didn't completely solve. I finally disconnected the vacuum motor from the air diverter and switch it manually.
