I stop at the bank today to cash my check, I come outside to start my truck, the batteries are dead. WTF. It started perfectly fine 5 minutes earlier when i left work. SO i get a jump from someone and im off and goin. I look down, and the volt gauge is down out of the normal range like it is dieing, immediatly i shut everything off that i could. I said hmm alternator but the light is NOT on. I drove the truck how 30 miles, lost everything but the truck kept driving, it lasted until i got a half mile away from my house, when there wasnt enough juice to fire the IDM(she just quit). Got it home(wrecked my bumper getting pulled long story), and I jump it again. Took about 5 minutes hooked up to our f-150 to get it to start back up. The second the jumper cable was unhooked the gauge is back down out of normal, I recheck with the voltmeter i got 8V's at the batteries.
I also then checked from the big stud on the alternator for power grounding it out to the battery. It said 8V's, dead matched the battery. If the alternator was working correctly shouldnt it put out 14.6V at that stud while running?
No battery light, No voltage, The battery isnt charging but there is no light. Help please!!!!
Im going to get it tested ASAP, but im confused, should the dummy light turn on when alt is bad. The past two times the light turned on, this time no light, shes gone.
The light isnt burned out tho, WHen i hooked it up to jump, i looked at the cluster where the light normally is and it turned on when the key was in the on postion(not running, when all the lights turn on).
The only other thing would be a battery that is dead shorted. I don't know how that would affect you Alt. reading. Still thinks it your alt. is gone south.
Well, I just ordered an 05 -07 bumper for my truck since my old one is FUBAR'd. What happened was i was only about a mile at the most away from my house. I had my brother pull my truck, which is no big deal, i told him to take it easy since i have no tow hooks, i hooked to the bumper, which ive done pulled people by my bumper before. Well we get to my driveway and I start yelling slow at my brother so he didnt rip the bumper off going up the hill, he thinks i said GO, and puts the pedal to the metal, twisted the bumper up, ripped the plastic out. Next time Ill call a tow truck, that only costs 75$.
Anyone know how much it costs to get something chromed?
Wheels ive heard can be rechromed for 100-150 bucks but dont know bout a bumper, you could paint one that would be different than most our trucks???
Why no tow hooks on ur truck?
Alternator is SHOT. Can't get another one until monday or tuesday.
I hope someone can chime into why the battery light did NOT turn on.
When my alternator died, I did not have a battery indicator light either. I did however have one BEFORE it died, but it went away. There is an "I" circuit that sends the signal to turn the light on and perhaps that failed as well.
the alt was still putting out some juice so the IDIOT !!! light did not react..
just like the other idiot lights and stock gauges..this is why we spend a little extra for good gauges..
did the stock volt gauge read what your tested read???

yeah it was really close, it was down by the 8 and the voltmeter said 8. Ive been debating painting my front bumper, ive seen it done before. Ill try to find the picture of it, maybe you guys can be the judge lol. What sucks is now i have to replace that grille that i spent all that time on making fit the old style bumper, hmm, might be for sale soon?
