Got A Letter From Ford!

well i got a letter the other day from Ford saying that my truck still has an outstanding recall on it....my 1997 F150...it is for the speed control module or whatever...i am guessing this means the cruise control problem they were having....my cruise control has been acting up(speeds up..then slows down..then speeds up).....but i did not think i was covered by this becuase i got 220,000km on my truck. so i never bothered.

but in the letter it says i can take it to any Ford dealer and get it fixed for free....is this true? or will i still have to pay becuase of the km on my truck?

Unless the letter has a mileage limit on it (it doesn't), there is no charge.

Disconnect the switch in the meantime to keep your truck from going up in smoke, could happen at ANY time. (and I do mean ANY!).

This problem has been around for 3 years. You should have addressed it by now.

Yes, recalls are free and almost all have no mileage or time frame to them. The CC recall has no mileage or time requirements.

yes i know the problem has been around for awhile...but i just purchased the truck about 3 months ago...and only heard of the problem a month or so ago...and now just got the letter the other day.

also...is there any other recalls on my truck i may not know about and that don't have a mileage limit?

Getting the recall done probably won't fix your hunting cruise control, but it will keep it from burning to the ground.

I just got mine done a few weeks ago on my 01. I've tried several times, but they either didn't have the part or they wanted me to wait several hours so they could spend 5 minutes plugging in the harness.

If it is an early build '97 there are a good 5-8 recalls if it is a late build I only can think of the CC and another one that was about the fuel rail rubbing on something and causing a leak, they only fixed it if it was rubbing. The fuel rail one came out maybe 4 years ago, all the other came out in '97 and '98 that I can remember.

This is a safety issue. Your truck could catch fire if it is not repaired. It is a recall which has no mileage limit. Take it to your local dealer ASAP and get it done. It usually take about 30 min max.

When you take your truck in for the CC recall have the dealer check for any other recalls on it. My 97 had about 6 or 7 recalls. Lug nuts,cc,& condensate hose recall. The ac hose came from Ford dripping on the O2 senser. It killed my O2 senser before 20k. It had a couple of other recalls but they were done before I bought it

lug nuts?...really now....that is interesting because my lug nuts came loose one day while driving down the highway...ended up loosening my aluminum rim and slopping the wholes all out to pieces....luckily i noticed the noise and put the spare on before it fell off.....but now i need to try and find a rim to match my set.

The dealership will run an oasis report when you go in for the recall.they should then
find any outstanding recalls. The thing about the lugnuts,if the recakll has not been done, they may have to replace your wheels. The recall was about the lugnuts not
being able to hold the wheel torque(original were grey, replacement were black). They are supposed to check the lug holes for enlarging and replace the wheels if they could
fit a dime in the hole.
