I see in a recent post (ponyboy asking for pricing) that the panel truck shown has side windows in the back. How common is this? Did they come from the factory like this? If so, how were they designated from the factory? If not, how were they done? By dealer? They look pretty cool. My 55 panel might like a pair of these. Something different.
As far as I know the only panels that came with side windows were the '48-52 Ford Rangers. This trucks were Marmon-Herrington conversions that were sent out by Ford and all of the alterations were performed by M-H and Siebert.
I agree, Ponyboy's panel is nice. It's the nicest widow job I have seen. It looks factory original.
Wow! Those were so well done, I didn't even notice them even tho I have a 56 Panel.
They had to have been custom made or the builder was awful lucky to have stumbled onto a perfect fit. None came from the factory with side windows.
They sure looked cool. I wonder if you could find windows from a newer vehicle (station wagon or van) that could be put in. Something to think about. Give the old truck an interesting look.
Say Bobj49f2 -- any chance you were at the Good Guys show last weekend? If you were there you probably got wet, I know I did. I took pictures of most of the 50's Ford trucks and hoped to get a few posted here. Maybe this weekend.
No, I haven't had time to do anything truck related this year. I've been busy at work. I did make it to Iola but missed Jefferson and Elkhorn.
Are you going to the Dash to the Dells,http://badgerlandf100s.com/? If you haven't gone yet you should, it's a great show. I hope to make it this year. I almost didn't last year, I pulled into the show around 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday.
Hey man that's the first thing I noticed about the panel!! I'm goin to build a 1956 F100 panel truck I have here, and I have a 1986 Mercury station wagon, sitting next to it, I noticed that the windows are real close in size and shape to what would be needed to do that.I haven't made papar patterns as of yet(paper is cheap!!!!) to see if my speculation is right or not??But I do have a good eye for angles and such, so I think they'd work well.If I do it, I'll cut out the opening of the car, and weld it into the truck, then I'd have the proper flange to install them. The only drawback is in the wagon, it has an aluminum trim around it and it dont match anything on the 56.I took some tops off some junk slant cab doors, and they have the correct body line as the 56, I might use them, with the glass from the wagon?? I dont know yet, but I know I'm goin to have something in the sides to see behind me.One of our members in our club(Tri-State F100's) has a panel truck and he said it is a pain seein behind him.I thought about installin one of those cheap cameras in the rear and havin a small tv screen up front? I don't know what I'll do yet, but I do LOVE the windows in Ponyboy's panel truck picts.
When I drive my '48 panel I tell people it's like have a 5 gallon plastic bucket placed over your head with a small cut out in the front. These trucks have major blind spots. I thought my '49 F-2 with the small widow had a large blind spot but nothing compared to the panel truck.
This panel came from a ford dealer and has been in denver for a long time. The trucks are from same owner who just happened to have his garage door opened. One is a worker and the other is a nice cruizer. All 3 run good and are used regularly. He also collects all effie parts and full trucks. Has many cabs and so forth.

ALBUQ, I think that it is the same as the ******. That is a very fine ride. I recall the quarter windows of my 55 delivery being the same cut as my 60 utility wagon as well. You have a good eye. I now wonder if the quarter window in the panel was put in with the stock rubber from the ****** dealer. In Denver, Bob Jones sold both Fords and ****** back in late 50s. I have always loved the ****** and have had about 8 of them even an FC150 with a Hurricane 6. Saw a 62 UW today for sale , but it had a 60 tail (2 pc) and I like the 61/62
