OK folks. I have a tag on my rear end. Here is what it says:
S 141 E
L73 10 5 9J17
Anybody know what gears I have? I ran 70 at about 2100 or 2200 rpm this last weekend. I know it's a limited slip because I jacked up the rear end to check. If anyone knows what gears I have I would really like to know. I get about 9.5 and 13.5 mpg so I would like to justify that to my friends by having 4.30 gears. They all have PSD's. I am the black sheep.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Dec-01 AT 11:18 PM (EST)]You have slushbox right, Mikeking? Man, I was gonna say that you have 3.73's. That's what I think but I can't remember what I pull at 70mph. It's too daggum late to go out & take a drive, so I'll find out in the morning and post it. I'm sure others will beat me to the punch, though. The first numbers of the code lead to believe that you have 3.73's. Are you sure that there isn't a 3 before that L??
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Dec-01 AT 05:31 PM (EST)]Really NoMo? I went out today and drove 70mph and I am right at 2000rpm. Maybe just a tick above, say 2050. I've been searching through my house for the equation that will tell you mathmatically what your truck should be turning (rpm) at a given road speed. So far I can't find it.:-X23 Don't you hate when you need something and can't find it!? My tires are new (maybe 1K on 'em) and stock size and brand, too(Firestone Steeltex R4SII / buy 3 get one free! $340!!), 3.73's and an auto. Anyway, 200rpm seems like a big difference but maybe it isn't...Soooooo, Mikeking, you got 3.73's
On another note, all you guys that have 2002 SD/Ex's I am so jealous! Those new lights look way . I know they'll bolt right in too. Now what'd I do with that number to my Ford dealer...
Through previous discussions, it seems that there can be significant differences between trucks & the RPMs they read. Throw in the "eyeball" factor and I think it's very possible to have a 200rpm difference.
Even easier... [link:www.ring-pinion.com/calc-rpm.html|Click here]. I think they use an OD ratio of .70 instead of our .71, but the numbers should be close enough.
