Duraspark problem
Have new module, new picku, new coil and new wiring throughout and a 1.3 ohm ballast resistor on the coil positive. The strange thing is that once the black ground wire is connected, the reisistor gets red hot and burns out. Thsi is so even with another new module. All the wires are out of the truck harness and run directly between battery supply, module, distributor and coil. Why would I get current flow through the coil supply with the ignition on if the module is only grounds the coil on run? I have checked the system with an oscilloscope and confirmed that there is no coil switching with the black wire disconnected from ground as expected, but if I connect it the resistor just heats up and blows. Seems as though the switching transistor in the module is grounded once the module is powered up, which is very strange.
Thanks
David
